LeBron James continues to give fans (and the culture at large) things to be excited about.

During an interview at All-Star Weekend, the basketball star confirmed that Space Jam 2 — the sequel to the iconic 1996 classic movie starring Michael Jordan — will begin filming this summer. James will be playing the leading role and will serve as one of the film’s executive producers.

While Jordan’s involvement in the upcoming movie is mere speculation at this time, Maverick Carter — James’ longtime business partner and co-founder of SpringHill Entertainment — previously indicated that the 56-year-old is more than welcome to participate in any role or capacity.

Additionally, Eric Bauza will also be involved. He is reportedly taking over the roles of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. It has not yet been confirmed whether or not Danny DeVito or Bill Murray will be reprising their original roles.

As previously reported, Black Panther co-writer and director Ryan Coogler has been tapped as a producer for the project. Additionally, Terence Nance, who’s known for his work as the creator of HBO’s “Random Acts of Flyness,” will serve as director.

News that James and Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment signed on to produce the sequel to the highly praised film initially broke in September 2018 after being rumored for years. This added more fuel to the comparisons between the Lakers player and the retired NBA legend.

Regardless of where one’s opinions may fall on the G.O.A.T. spectrum when discussing the two basketball greats, it is undeniably exciting that they will share another career highlight in the form of the Space Jam franchise.
