Young Thug brought his recent hit, “Hot,” to The Tonight Show stage. Performing with Gunna, Wheezy and the Temple University Diamond Marching Band, Thugger breathed new life into the So Much Fun album cut with his smoke-filled performance.
Wheezy hit the stage first, leading the marching band in a live rendition of the song. After the band set the tone, Gunna appeared for his verses, dressed in all black.
“Everything litty, I love when it’s hot/ Turned up the city, I broke off the notch/ Got some more millis, I keep me a knot/ I created history and made me a lot,” he raps.
As the stage became even more drenched in smoke, Young Thug emerged. Dressed head-to-toe in white, Thug punctuated the set with his usual energy and flair.
Upon its release this August, So Much Fun, technically Thugger’s debut studio album, earned the Atlanta rapper his first Billboard Hot 200-charting project.
“I really didn’t think too much about it. It’s just fun music. You only should play this music when you’re having a good time,” Thug told The Fader about his latest record. “I relaxed, worked on my label, got everything how I needed it… But I was making big moves.”
300 Entertainment’s Geoff Ogunlesi, Thug’s longtime A&R, credited So Much Fun’s success to the YSL leader’s mindful approach in a recent interview with Complex.
”I think—not just with artists, but in life—everything happens for a reason and when it’s meant to happen, and everything that has happened previously defines what happens today,” he said. “I think the reason that So Much Fun has the success that it has is because of everything that happened previously. It’s because we put out seven projects before we put this one out. It’s because we tried this and we tried that, we saw what worked.”
