Devastating news has unfortunately hit the Knowles family. Multiple outlets including Entertainment Tonight and TMZ are reporting that Beyonce and Solange’s father, Mathew, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The dad and former manager of the stars — as well as Destiny’s Child — will be opening up about his health issues in an interview with Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America,” which will air on Wednesday (Oct. 2). On the program, Mathew is expected to share his story with all of America who’ll be watching to learn more about his condition.
“How was it to tell your family about the diagnosis?” Strahan asks him in a clip of the sit down that “GMA” posted on social media earlier today (Oct. 1). We’re still not certain as to when Mathew learned of his diagnosis. However, we’re sure to learn all of that and much more come tomorrow morning.
According to TMZ, breast cancer is rare in males, as only less than 1 percent of men get diagnosed with it. “However, it’s most frequently diagnosed in men between the ages of 60 and 70. Mathew is 67 years old,” the outlet reports. On top of that, the median age of men who get breast cancer is 63.
“According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the mortality rate for men is higher than it is for female patients,” TMZ continues.
Mathew was previously married to Tina Knowles before they split in 2011 and he remarried Gena Avery in 2013. He’s since had two more children since he divorced Beyonce and Solange’s mother.
A few years ago, rumors also began swirling that he was feuding with his adult daughters, especially Bey, which he vehemently denied. “There are many other important topics needing America’s attention,” Mathew said at the time. “No one needs more unnecessary negativity. Media like this needs to get on higher ground. I, for one, am focusing on lectures and seminars that help people achieve something positive and achieve better lives.”
