6LACK is beginning to see his hard work yield some increasingly impressive results, with his latest project catapulting his career to new heights.
The Atlanta native released his breakthrough single “Prblms” in June 2016, going on to follow up his newfound success with his debut album, Free 6lack. Now that he’s sunken his teeth even deeper into his craft and experienced his first foray of mainstream attention, the 26-year-old is continuing to leave a notable mark on the game, releasing his sophomore record, East Atlanta Love Letter, on Sept. 14.
According to new reports from Billboard, the recording artist’s second project has officially debuted in the No. 1 slot on the Top R&B Albums (for the week dated Sept. 29). According to Nielson Music, the project earned 77,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 20.
Additionally, six of its songs appear on the Hot R&B Songs chart, including his collaborations with Future (“East Atlanta Love Letter,” No. 11) and with Khalid (“Seasons,” No. 20), among others. On top of that, his collaboration with J. Cole, “Pretty Little Fears,” is also making an impression on the Billboard Hot 100, sitting at No. 76, and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No. 35.
Recently, REVOLT sat down with Junia Abaidoo, one of the co-founders of LVRN, who shared some insight into 6LACK’s natural star power, both on and off stage.
“The thing about 6LACK is, even though people have just found out about him, he’s been making music, and he’s always been a well-known artist in certain sections of Atlanta, for awhile,” Abaidoo explained exclusively to REVOLT. “He’s been doing it for about 10 years. So he wasn’t brand new to a stage. But, at the same time, he was brand new to the audience he was now getting because of the music. So, there were lot of things we knew we had to develop and change, in terms of his presence on stage, comfortability, giving him things he can go to for crowd participation and things like that.”
Congrats to 6LACK on his first No. 1!
