After garnering a buzz with her viral track “ICY GRL,” Saweetie has come through with more new music, today (March 16) releasing her debut project, High Maintenance.
The Bay Area rapper and USC grad, who is currently performing in Austin at SXSW, strategically chose to leave her first formal release featureless, allowing fans to get to know her solely through her music.
The EP spans nine tracks and includes production from her cousin Zaytoven, as well as No I.D. and Cash Money AP, among others.
“The relationships I have with people are very high maintenance, meaning I nurture them,” the emerging rapper says, speaking with Billboard about the project’s title and inspiration. “Essentially, I care for them. I also pray a lot, work out, and eat well so all aspects of my life are high maintenance… Since it’s an introductory to the game, I feel like it’s an appropriate way to brand myself.”
