Martin Shkreli, the disgrac… okay, by now you know who the former pharmaceutical boss is and the fact that he was sentenced to seven years in prison last week. In addition, you may also be aware of Ghostface Killah and Raekwon’s kind words for the guy. But now it looks as though the very thing that kept Shkreli afloat in conversations could soon end up in the hands of the public soon.
Now that he is set for a seven-year sentence, Shkreli is expected to pay back more than $7.3 million in a brokerage account and personal assets, which includes the rare Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V, which he claims was discovered in a used car.
According to the Associated Press, the government may end up auctioning off the albums. As per the forfeiture, Shkreli has up until Thursday to confirm whether or not he still has the said albums, or proceeds from sales. Until then, he “shall not, directly or indirectly, transfer, assign, license, waste, pledge, encumber, hypothecate, distribute, dissipate, dilute or remove” it from the court’s jurisdiction.
Along with the albums, the government has also listed a Picasso painting as a substitute personal asset. Back in September, Shkreli put up the Wu-Tang album on eBay. However, it is unknown if he actually sold the release.
