Sometimes the best news is actually years in the making, and in this case, it’s been exactly two decades.
As reported by HipHopDX, Yasiin Bey has confirmed that there is a new Black Star officially album in the works and not only that, but its release may happen sooner rather than later. Fans have been begging for a sophomore release from Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Talib Kweli since the release of their lone Black Star collaborative album, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, in 1998.
A Reddit user helped break the news to a national audience after attending a Madlib DJ set during which Yasiin Bey riled up the crowd with the news, saying, “All Madlib, all day. 2018, Madlib, Black Star. Madlib Black Star. New Black Star with Madlib, Talib Kweli, Yasiin, coming soon!”
The news is equally perplexing, exciting and surprising, considering how long it has been since the first project was released and factoring in how Bey originally claimed he was retiring in 2016.
Hopefully there will be more news regarding this long-awaited development in the days to come.
