Even though 2018 yielded enough hip hop releases for fans to consume and digest well into the new year, it’s a safe bet to make that 2019 will continue in a similarly accelerated fashion.
Kendrick Lamar was part of a select group of top-tier rappers who did not release an album in 2018, save for curating the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for Black Panther. However, much to the dismay of fans, the Compton native recently assured the Los Angeles Times during his latest interview that he currently has no plans regarding the follow-up to 2017’s DAMN. This hasn’t stopped rumors that the rapper has something epic up his sleeve, something a recent possible Instagram blooper is only further fueling.
As pointed out by Pop Craze, a representative from Polydor Records, which handles Interscope’s distribution overseas, may have let the cat out of the bag that Lamar is on the release schedule after all. In a since-deleted post on Instagram, the imprint revealed a list of projects to anticipate dropping in 2019, naming none other than K. Dot.
In addition to name-dropping Lamar, the Instagram story in question featured a list that included names such as Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, DJ Snake, Selena Gomez and SchoolboyQ, among others.
While the company has not yet issued a statement regarding what likely was a mistake, the post was either deleted due to having inaccurate information, at the request of one of the artists or because it included classified information that was not intended for public knowledge just yet. Either way, we’re sure someone got a talking to as a result.
Rumors have been swirling around Lamar’s upcoming music pretty much throughout the entirety of this year. So much so that the TDE boss, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith had to confirm that the label star isn’t dropping new music in 2018. However, with 2019 right around the corner, fans certainly are remaining optimistic.
