Despite Insecure getting snubbed by the Emmys for a nomination this year, it’s still as influential as ever with news recently surfacing that artists will be using the hit HBO series as a vehicle to premiere their new music.
Last week, Kier Lehman, music supervisor for Insecure, told Vulture that the Issa Rae-created show would be getting exclusive songs from Miguel, Jorja Smith, Dreezy, Kari Faux, BOSCO, Jazmine Sullivan and Bryson Tiller. And now we finally have the collaboration from the latter duo.
Named after the show itself, the track is driven by a loop of a simple yet soulful, muffled vocalization.
While Sullivan asks why her man embodies the titular trait…
“Ain’t no reason not to trust me, I’m your lady, not a slave / You my nigga, not my master, I’ll escape thinking, ‘Who can I run to? / Got me looking for a new dude / With a chill vibe, who a nice time / Who could lay back, who don’t pick fights, who ain’t insecure / Why you gotta be so insecure?”
Tiller explains himself as best he can…
“Been a long time, ain’t been home, I been away / Work got me in and out of state / Don’t know what you’re doing, wonder what you’re doing / You got niggas in your face, I’ll never let you go to waste / You’re my treasure, baby, not my trash / Thirsties ’bout to make a nigga spaz.”
The song will be heard on this Sunday’s (August 6) episode.
