What a time to be alive! La La Anthony’s Power character LaKeisha Grant is still kicking – she wasn’t knocked off in season three as many speculated.
If you’re a fan of the show, you recall that Tommy was ordered to murder Keisha; but we never saw if he carried out the act. Keisha simply disappeared from the last few episodes of the show. Well on Sunday, during the season four premiere, it was revealed that not only did Tommy not give Keisha’s friends and family a reason for slow singing and flower bringing, but he stashed her and her son away in a safe house.
“It’s great because Power is a show where you will get knocked off rather quickly,” Anthony told Revolt. “You don’t know who’s gonna get knocked off. So to still be here is the most amazing thing, and what’s even more amazing is just to have so many people invested in LaKeisha and wanting to know ‘what’s going on with LaKeisha, where is she? What’s happening?’ It’s an exciting thing.”
Anthony also revealed that returning to season four was not promised. She herself was on pins and needles, waiting to find out if her character survived.
“It was definitely up in the air,” La La recounted. “The way it ended [last year] it could have went either way, and the end of LaKeisha. It could have been it. It was suspenseful and when I found out that I was coming back, you breathe a sigh of relief. Now I’m ready. Ready to take on what this season brings, which is a much bigger season for LaKeisha.”
Well, from the looks of the first episode, it seems like Keisha is definitely going to get some mud underneath her acrylic nails. Keisha’s shop is officially a front for narcotics sales, and Keisha is also sticking by Tasha’s side while Tasha and Ghost battle their troubles with the Feds.
“It makes me really happy to see LaKeisha evolving into her own and having her own relationships,” La La smiled. “Her friendship with Tasha is a complicated one but there’s a loyalty there. It’s complicated. So that’s something that a lot of people can relate to. The relationship, whatever it is with Tommy is crazy and that’s something people can relate to as well. I’m glad I’ve been out in these situations that I really feel the audience can relate to as well.”
New episodes of “Power” air every Sunday on STARZ. There are nine more episodes to go in the 2017 season.
