Gnarls Barkley, the brainchild of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, made quite the impression in the mid-to-late aughts, with their 2007 Grammy Award-winning, four-times platinum single “Crazy” probably already stuck in your head after reading this.
Prior to entering a lengthy hiatus period, the soul duo dropped two projects, 2006’s St. Elsewhere and 2008’s The Odd Couple, with the former earning them a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. As confirmed during an exclusive interview with DJBooth, Green revealed that he and his longtime collaborator have begun working on their first new joint album in nearly a decade.

After discussing the inspiration and creative process behind his latest single, “Brick Road,” which is set to appear on his forthcoming solo mixtape Songbirds, the conversation happily shifted gears to focus on Green’s formal reunion with Danger Mouse.
“We have already started on a new [Gnarls Barkley] album,” Green confirms during the interview. “We’re halfway in and we have some overtures from the other projects that may not have stood the test of time, we don’t know yet.”
Additionally, the singer-songwriter elaborated that they are planning on getting together at “the top of the year,” further adding, “That’s pretty much all the time we had to do St. Elsewhere because we were heating up around that time. We were doing something recreationally.”
Considering 2017 was one of the best years for music in recent memory, fans are already looking forward to the same momentum carrying into the new year, with news of the revival of Gnarls Barkley definitely something to look forward to.
