In his now-infamous rant from November 19 in Sacramento, Kanye West listed A Tribe Called Quest as one of the hip-hop acts that “raised” him, but minutes later he called out Tribe’s Abstract Poet.
“Q-Tip, I love you, bro,” Kanye said onstage at the Saint Pablo Tour stop. “Don’t tell me how to be me though. I love you. The Tribe album is dope. I love you. Don’t tell how to be me though. I’ve been me. I am me.”
A Tribe Called Quest sat down recently to tape an episode of Drink Champs. When asked by host N.O.R.E. about Ye calling him out, Tip says he still considers West a brother.
“I reached out to the n-gga. On just personal,” Tip recalled. “He got onstage, said what he had to say. I will continue to reach and talk to my n-gga, personal. I’m never going to… I’m not from that pedigree where we talk to n-ggas publicly, airing sh-t out.”
Q-Tip to A Tribe Called Quest fans: “Expect another incarnation”
Hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN talk to Tribe, Busta Rhymes, and Consequence more in depth about Kanye as well as turmoil with Tupac, kissing Janet Jackson, and Tip being the “East Coast Dr. Dre.”
You can catch the full ATCQ episode of Drink Champs this Thursday night at 11 p.m. ET on REVOLT TV.
