Since his 2013 debut EP, Ballroom Riots, Peruvian-born and New York- and Los Angeles-bred A.CHAL has been patiently biding his time. That time would begin its course in early 2015 when the singer/songwriter/producer unassumingly shared his record “GAZI” on his socials. He gradually gained new followers, attracted to him by the support of cultural mavens and artists such as Drake’s co-manager and OVO founder Oliver El-Khatib, A$AP Rocky, and Zane Lowe.
Pigeons & Planes named A.CHAL as one of the best new artists of 2015. With the summer release of his long-awaited album Welcome To GAZI, and the official video for his lead single, “Round Whippin’,” he will surely be the artist to watch going into 2017 as well.
Hear from A.CHAL in his own words:
My sound in five words or less: Neon Trees in the Concrete Jungle
What was the best part of making this video: Letting go of any worries and being able to trust the director, Max, on executing the vision.
What inspires your art: My mistakes and their reasons.
Explain the concept of the song in one sentence: Speeding nowhere fast.
