First we learned Mariah Carey was coming to Empire in Season 3. Then Taye Diggs was added to the lineup. Now it’s been announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner Phylicia Rashad is joining Empire as well for a recurring guest role. Per the press release:
Mariah Carey is heading to “Empire,” too
“Rashad will portray Diana Dubois, a powerhouse from one of New York’s oldest and most prominent African-American families. As the mother of ambitious city councilman Angelo Dubois (guest star Taye Diggs), she has her sights set on higher office for her only son, and she’ll stop at nothing to groom him. Diana’s interactions with Cookie, Lucious and the rest of the Lyon clan will lay bare the stark class divides that can exist, even within the black community.”
This goes without saying, but Rashad is best known for playing Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Recently, she has appeared in Creed alongside Michael B. Jordan, and in the Tyler Perry-directed For Colored Girls.
Season 3 premieres September 21 at 9/8 CT on FOX.
