When Bibi Bourelly dropped her Earl St. Clair-assisted “Perfect” last month, we loved its full-blown blues. That both the vocalists sounded raw and raspy, but in different ways. That it managed to be modern and timeless all at once. And now we’ve got its video. And all that stuff is still in tact, but let’s just say the song is easier on the ears than the video is on the eyes.
And that’s no one’s fault but our own; shouldn’t art make you uncomfortable?
In the clip, Bibi and Earl sit in a perfectly pristine all-white apartment in perfectly pristine all-white clothes. That is, until the facade starts to fall. Roaches roam the tables, mold grows on the walls, fruit begins to rot, and flowers start to die. Bibi’s nail polish chips, her sneakers get muddied, and her fake eyelashes begin to fall off.
But to drive the point even further home, that not everything is what it seems, Bibi’s own skin starts to deteriorate. And she picks and pulls at it until she’s left with nothing but scars.
