In 1985, the legendary Jon Baker was the owner of Gee Street Records, which brought us acts like Doug. E Fresh, Gravediggaz, and Outlaw Posse. He returns to the scene with the new Gee Jam Label and studio, but his son Troy Baker is one of the exceptional keys here who will catapult the label to higher heights. Featured on the new roster are artists Diztroy and Mystic Davis, and REVOLT has the exclusive release of their new single “Mystic Strings.” Their debut EP DizTroy featuring Mystic Davis is a pretty solid foray.

Diztroy is a Jamaican-born and -bred production team made up of Troy Baker from the U.K. and Dale “Dizzle” Virgo from Jamaica. The two producers bring the best of both of their respective worlds together mashing up reggae, dancehall, and EDM beats with a hip-hop disposition. It’s a great combination since the U.K. already has a heavy reggae/ska influence in its musical landscape. Singer/dancer Mystic Davis’ presence is striking — vocally and physically. As the MC on the six tracks, she is undeniably dancehall with a touch of hip-hop. The former is not a surprise at all, since we all know from where the foundation of hip-hop derives. Davis’ dancer’s physique along with her pop, tick, and bubble vibes in the visuals hit hard with her lyrical dancehall-infused hooks, delivery, and cantankerous vibes.

The visuals for “Mystic Strings” were shot around Port Antonio, Jamaica by Kevin Lee and Savannah Baker. Now, before you run to call this “tropical house” or any such derivative — it is straight-up, unadulterated dancehall. Perhaps the influence of the other genres mashed up in the production may sway your sonic sensibilities. However, there is no denying the unmistakable dancehall drive and fever.
