The queen is back and still making us cry.
Following news that Adele’s 25 is a “make-up record” inspired by coming to terms with adulthood and being a mother, the Brit songstress reintroduces herself with a somber new video and single simply titled, “Hello.” The grand opening off her third album, probably the last in a trilogy of albums framed by her age, the 27-year-old singer pens yet another heartbreak-themed anthem, as she sings: “Hello, it’s me/ I was wondering if after all these years/ you’d like to meet to go over everything/ they say that time’s supposed to heal ya/ but I ain’t done much healing …”
Accompanied by a cinematic visual directed by Canadian director Xavier Dolan and costarring The Wire’s Mack Wilds, Adele has a series of flashbacks as she calls her past lover to apologize for “everything I’ve done” but finds no one answering her call. Written by Adele and her producer Greg Kurstin, the powerhouse singer apparently admits the song didn’t come to her right away.
“I did write an album about being a mum but that’s pretty boring,” Adele told BBC 1’s Nick Grimshaw. “I scrapped that.” But on the contrary, she admitted that becoming a parent made the recording and writing process challenging. “Getting into the headspace was really difficult,” she said, “Having such a break off, I kind of fell out of the habit of writing songs.”
Causing a firestorm of emotions from fans and celebrities, that ranged from crying and screaming to having everyone outpouring their feelings via Twitter, Sam Smith, Katy Perry and a string of artists congratulated the singer’s return.
The new album is set to feature songs by Bruno Mars, Danger Mouse and Tobias Jesso Jr., with a release date of November 20.
