Chad Hugo Speaks On N*E*R*D Reunion

The mysterious Neptune discussed the surprise performance minutes after his and Pharrell's raucous set at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game.

If you tuned into the 2014 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night (February 16), you not only caught the Eastern Conference scoring its first victory in three years against the dominant West, but also a spectacular halftime performance and memorable opener from the one and only Pharrell.

Hits, hits, and more hits was the best way to describe what took place during the superproducer’s opening set on Sunday night, as he brought along hit-making pals Diddy, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, and Busta Rhymes to join the party.

Running through a medley of classics from his incredible catalog—everything from “Frontin’” to “Hot in Herre,” “Pass the Courvoisier Ciroc,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and more—P’s 20-minute set played out like a live rendition of a Greatest Hits album.

But besides the hits, there was also a special reunion between the Academy Award—nominated musician and Chad Hugo, the other (admittedly more mysterious) half of The Neptunes. For years, the production duo laced the music world with a litany of outstanding music, and on Sunday night they came together onstage to bless the New Orleans arena with one of their N.E.R.D. classics, “Rock Star.”
