Is it giant festivals of four-chord, 3-piece pummeling, sponsored by shoe companies and energy drinks? If that’s your sense of punk rock, then yeah, like the spray paint on every alley in every city will tell you, it’s f--king dead. But if you embrace its ideals, DIY spirit, and stick-it-to-the-man sensibility, then not only is punk not dead, it’s alive and thriving. Case in point - last week, DFA Records band Holy Ghost! swung by Seattle radio station 107.7 The End after their show in the city for an impromptu takeover, not only using the platform to expose their audience to the likes of Todd Terje and other nu-disco torch carriers, but also debuting a number of unreleased demos, including the band’s own cover of Drake’s runaway smash, “Hold On, We’re Going Home." The band’s take on the cut, which near perfectly mirrors whatever you imagine it would like, trades the smooth and milky R&B vibes of the original for a more analog chug, that turns the track from an after-party jam to a dance floor banger, all while maintaining its unique chill in the process. While it remains to be seen if HG!'s cover is set for any kind of official release, the spontaneous debut came about after an excited phone discussion between the band's core duo Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser, in which they decided the unexpected debut “feels right." The rest, as they say, is history. Holy Ghost! joins a short list of artists to cover Drake's recent hit, as the past weeks have seen everybody from the Arctic Monkeys, Rick Ross, and Dev Hynes taking the track on and remixing it by adding their own flare. Be sure to catch Holy Ghost! on tour in support of their fantastic sophomore album, Dynamics, check out a radio rip of the aforementioned cover below, and the official (downloadable) version here.   Thumbnail Image Credit- Courtesy of:
